The father of the groom speech is an important speech because it gives a father the chance to give his blessings to the married couple in front of everyone present on that occasion. Like all weddings, you can expect that the people who are special to the Bride and Groom will be there. And because it is a public speech, there are certain things to keep in mind before giving the father of groom speech. Consider these wedding speech etiquette:
Keep your jokes clean. Being funny when giving a speech is a great way to interact with your audience. However, you don’t want to be entertaining at the expense of others feeling. Make sure that no one will be offended by your sense of humor. Also, remember that there will be kids who will attend the event so avoid unpleasant jokes.
Be warm and sincere. How you feel will somehow show from the way you deliver your speech. If you’re truly happy, then you don’t need to try hard to let it show. Don’t be afraid to be emotional. If you feel a little teary eyed, then let yourself be. In fact, it is such a sweet gesture of love for your son and his bride.
Keep it short but sweet. It does not have to be a very lengthy speech in order to make an impact. An ideal speech for a wedding reception can last for three to five minutes. Your audience will appreciate a short but meaningful message as long as it comes from the heart. If you must tell a long story, be sure to summarize it so it won’t take too much of your time. Remember that there will be other speakers who will also give their messages to the newlyweds so don’t take up all the time for yourself.
Don’t forget the bride. Surely, you will talk about your son in your speech but do not forget to give your personal message to the bride. Give her a warm welcome as she is now part of your family. You may also talk about her good qualities which made it easier for your family to embrace her. Acknowledge the presence of her parents as an act of respect and friendship.

Thank you for writing an article on this. I think proper etiquette when delivering a speech is very important. Although it’s not a formal speech, a speaker needs to remember that it’s a solemn occasion as well. I agree that jokes and funny lines are encouraged but they should always be done in good taste. There will be a lot of people there from different backgrounds or sometimes different races and you don’t want to be upsetting anybody on a wedding day. So yeah, I guess if you’re not sure whether a certain line may be offensive or not, it’s best to just leave it out from your speech.
