So your son is getting married, and you want to write the perfect father of the groom speech. This daunting challenge won’t be so difficult if you choose to write from your heart.
Is there anything special that you’ve always wanted to tell your son? Maybe you want him to know that he ranks among the most special people in your life, that he’s your literal pride and joy; an intelligent, successful, handsome, kind-hearted chip off the old block. Maybe you want to remind him of all the special times you spent together, sharing precious anecdotes that capture your life as father and son. Or maybe you want to let him know that you adore your new daughter-in-law, and that he has enhanced your family by bringing this special woman into your presence.
Don’t think of your father of the groom speech as a cool, solemn oratory. Rather, think of it as the rare opportunity to convey your deepest, most loving emotions to your son. This is your chance to shine a spotlight on him and his new wife, singing their praises and extolling their many virtues.
Also when planning this speech, don’t forget to make mention of the other members of your extended family, as well as the dear friends who will gather at your son’s wedding to honor and support him. These could include your own dear wife, your other children, your parents, your aunts, uncles and siblings, cousins and close pals, and of course the best man and maid of honor who stood beside your son and daughter-in-law at their wedding. Whether the person listening is a close friend or distant cousin, you want each and every person in attendance to feel both welcome and loved.

Thanks for posting this article. My son is soon to be married and I’m quite lost about what to say or how to deliver a wedding speech. As the father of the groom, I know that son and my family expects me to give a meaningful speech on that special occasion and I don’t want to let them down. I’m going to apply the suggestions here and take the chance to let my son know how proud I am to be his Father, how proud I am of his achievements, and how happy I am that he found somebody a lifetime partner as I found in his mother.
I remember my father in law when he gave the speech on our wedding day. My husband couldn’t help but cry. Actually, everyone else in that room was teary-eyed, including me. My father in law was such a kind gentleman and we love him so much. He was not embarrassed to speak about how much he loves his son but most of all, he welcomed me to their family with such warmth and love. My husband and I were beaming with joy as we listened to every words he said. And I will forever remember him on that moment.
My husband should definitely see this article. I’m going to recommend that he read this post. Our son is getting married in two-week’s time and he’s still hasn’t got a speech prepared. Being a quiet man, he isn’t very keen about the idea of speaking in front of a big audience. Yet, I tell him to think of it as an opportunity to show how much we love our son, and that’s what’s keeping him encouraged. Write from the heart- I love that tip! Yeah, I think he should just find time to write what’s in his heart and he’ll be fine.
