Father of the Grooms Speech – Few Handy Tips

Do you worry that you will not be able to deliver a great father of the grooms speech? If yes, just take a look at the following tips and you’ll find that it’s not so difficult after all.

Introduce yourself. Yes, your family and the bride’s family may know you as the Father of the Groom but for the sake of all the guests, it’s best to formally introduce yourself at the beginning of your speech.   Nevertheless, you do not need to sound very formal. For instance, you may say “If you are wondering who I am, I am the proud Father of that beaming man over there who is standing beside his beautiful bride” or something to that effect.

Determine the theme of your speech. If you’re not sure where to start, you may choose a meaningful quotation to determine the theme of your speech. It’s important to set a definite theme before writing your speech so that your message can be well-organized and not confusing for your listeners.

Show, don’t tell. Professional writers follow this basic rule in writing effectively. For example, instead of just saying how you feel, you may share an anecdote, a story or use a metaphor that invite your audience to think, visualize and interact with your speech.

Go easy on the advice. The father of the grooms speech often includes a fatherly advice for the couple. However, make sure that you will not get too absorbed in this part of your speech to the point that it becomes a lecture on how to stay happily married. One or two reminders should be enough and there is no need for too much elaboration.

Welcome the bride. Do not forget to acknowledge your daughter-in-law and warmly welcome her to your family. You may also acknowledge the bride’s parents and thank them for the wonderful job of raising a lovely daughter.

Make a toast for the bride and groom. To conclude your speech, you can end it with a quotation or your personal wish for the couple. You really can’t go wrong on this one as long as you keep the message positive and inspiring.

These are some really good tips. I think by following this guide, it should be easier for the father of the groom to create his own speech. I will be recommending this page to some of my clients. I’m a wedding planner but sometimes an immediate family member of the couple would approach me asking for tips on creating a speech. I usually advise them to read sample speeches online so they can have a better idea of what they can say. I keep telling them to look over the internet. And now, I’m glad that I can give them a specific website that they can check out.
