Great post!. Telling one or two anecdotes adds spice and excitement to the father of the groom speech. Why? Because the stories told are unique and only the father or close family members know. These are true experiences, bonding moments that are shared by the father himself and his son and although anecdotes are usually funny, I think they can bring a tear or two to the father, and to the audience as well. But I do agree that the father has to be very careful about choosing which story to tell, making sure that it’s not too embarrassing or cause hurt to the groom or anyone’s feelings.

I think these are great tips for the father of the groom.I personally believe that taking the time to actually practice giving the speech, by saying it out loud in front of another person or a small audience would be a great help. I also recommend writing down the speech and carrying a small note, just in case you forget.I am wedding planner and have been on the job for more than eight years. In all those times, I’ve seen a lot of speakers, including some fathers, who become speechless when it’s their turn to give out a speech or get stuck in the middle of their speeches. Although these things happen and it’s okay, it does take away a lot of time from the event. Other speakers are waiting for their turn and everyone just have to wait while the father of the groom tries to come up with an impromptu speech for ten minutes. All the participants in a wedding should prepare to perform their roles as best as they could to make the occasion running as smoothly as possible.

This is a nice article. What I enjoy most about father of the groom speeches is listening to the anecdotes. It’s a joy to hear a father speak about the past years. And to know something new about the groom, particularly when he was a boy or during his teenage year. Surely, the bride is the one most excited to hear about these “little stories”. Yeah, I think everyone in the audience appreciates a heartwarming story from a father, reminiscing the past or even a recent event! It just makes the speech even more special and it usually adds up humor to the speech too. Thanks
